Grasp your client&#8217;s financial picture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you get a reply from a client who specifies they\u2019re struggling, knowing and understanding where your client stands financially is the next logical step. You can\u2019t help them &#8211; and can\u2019t get paid &#8211; if you don\u2019t have this information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you understand what they\u2019re going through, you\u2019ll be in a better position to offer solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Offer payment plans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When clients express cash flow issues and find it difficult to make full upfront payments, consider <a title=\"Should You Offer Payment Plans to Coaching Clients?\" href=\"https:\/\/paperbell.com\/blog\/offer-payment-plans-to-customers\/\">offering them structured payment plans<\/a>. Hire a collections agency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All of the above solutions will work if a client is willing to discuss with you.\u00a0But what happens if you get ghosted by a client whom you\u2019ve already coached and now refuses to pay at all?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider hiring a collections agency or a <a href=\"https:\/\/upflow.io\/blog\/ar-collections\/receivable-management-services-alternatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">receivables management services<\/a> company if the owed amount could seriously harm your finances or operations. They&#8217;re pros at chasing down unpaid debts, but keep in mind they take a cut of the recovered funds as payment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, you\u2019ll never get the full amount back &#8211; but there\u2019s a chance the collection agency will be able to recoup some of your losses. Make sure the agency you hire follows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumer.ftc.gov\/articles\/0149-debt-collection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Trade Commission (FTC)<\/a> guidelines to avoid any issues. It could be a helpful solution to recover what&#8217;s owed to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if your client only owes you a small amount, it may not be worth hiring a collections agency at all.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Provide a final warning and follow up<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve decided not to hire a collection agency and don\u2019t want to undertake any other legal action, you should still let the client know what will happen if they do not work with you to get the debt sorted out. There\u2019s no such thing as too many follow-ups here. But in your final email (or call), be clear on what your course of action will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, you may remove all access to previous content you\u2019d shared with your client. You\u2019ll also likely cancel all future coaching sessions with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just make sure that whatever action you take is in line with your coaching agreement.
