Do competitor research&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After looking at your loyal following, it\u2019s time to peek at your competitor&#8217;s podcasts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Create a competitive analysis Google Doc and answer the following questions for at least five other podcasts:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What are the recurring topics?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do they have the same format or mix it up (i.e., solo episodes, interviews, etc.)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How frequently do they release new podcasts?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does their marketing strategy span multiple platforms or focus on one?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What episodes do they seem to have the most audience engagement on?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What <a href=\"https:\/\/paperbell.com\/blog\/podcast-directories\/\">podcast directories<\/a> do they list their podcast on? Are they on more than Apple Podcasts and Spotify?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do they release audio content only or video, too?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What do you like about their podcast? Think cover art, content, length, format, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What don\u2019t you like about their podcast? Think cover art, content, length, format, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, use that information to help create clear objectives for yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Decide on your content pillars and fill in with some topics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the information you gather as you talk to your existing audience, research your competitor&#8217;s audiences, and narrow it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If there&#8217;s one thing I&#8217;ve learned from the most successful podcasts, it&#8217;s this: <strong>quality trumps quantity every time.<\/strong> Don&#8217;t feel pressured to churn out episode after episode if they&#8217;re not offering value to your audience.
