It reassures the client they are being heard while allowing them to refine their thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paraphrasing can be done either verbatim or by rephrasing the client\u2019s words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a client says, <em>\u201cI\u2019ll never be good at this,\u201d<\/em> you might reflect this back neutrally, saying <em>\u201cSo you feel that you\u2019ll never be good at this.\u201d<\/em> Hearing their own words mirrored can sometimes make them pause and reevaluate. They might respond, <em>\u201cWell\u2026 maybe I could get better by practicing more.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may also reword the client\u2019s statement to highlight a new perspective or an underlying theme.
